SCHOOL FLÁVIO GONÇALVES WELCOMES “CORRENTES D’ESCRITAS”

“Correntes d’Escritas” is an annual writing festival that takes place in Póvoa de Varzim.

Today, 23rd February, two poets, Ivo Machado and José Alberto Postiga, visited our school and shared their points of view with the students of class 5E and a student of 6C.

Ivo Machado talked about:

- his childhood and how students can develop a good relationship.

- how he inherited his love for books, being his grandmother the strongest reason.

- the importance of books and how they allow us to travel.

- how writing can make find ourselves.

José Alberto Postiga, a words’ fisherman expressed that he is happy to know how lucky children are today for being able to study as far as they want. He told about his past, when he didn’t realise the importance of school, which made him dropped out. A few years later he returned and came to the conclusion that school makes what we are.

Both writers presented the idea that intelligence isn’t just a characteristic of people who study but also of people with great life experiences. José Postiga referred to his sea partners and their vast wisdom. Ivo Machado told about his mother and how a woman with no schooling could be so wise. They also entertained us with some funny episodes of their childhoods.

In the end the students asked the writers some questions that made them reflect, discover and have a good moment.
