A BOOK SURVIVAL GUIDE TO BEING A TEENAGER (PART 1).

Being a teenager can be difficult, so here you have some reading suggestions to help you along the way.

First suggestion - The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.


This book was first published twenty years ago, but it is still relevant today. This heartbreaking and wonderful coming - of- age book depicts Charlie's life; a high school student who tries to get away from being anti-social and strives to be accepted. You will get to meet his new friends and learn of his childhood secret.

This book reads as a survival guide for all of you who are navigating the stormy waters of high school.

Be sure to watch the movie, too.





Second suggestion – The Hate You Give (THUG) by Angie Thomas

(A New York best seller)

THUG brilliantly portrays racism in the USA, nowadays. This book was inspired by a true story where a young African American girl witnesses the shooting of her African American friend by a white police officer.

This bestseller will help you understand the racial cruelty you watch on TV and read about in social media, where violence, injustice and discrimination proliferate.

By reading this book you will broaden your cultural horizons, better understand social differences and be made aware of the importance of family and what it means to belong to a community.

If you identify with the Black Lives Matter movement you should most definitely read this book and watch the film.


Third suggestion – Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb



This book is a must read for all Harry Potter fans. It is the first book of a trilogy. You will be introduced to Fitz, the illegitimate son of the crown prince who is despised by all.

Fitz is raised in the castle stables, having as his only comforts, the company of the King’s fool, the poor children of the lower city and his love for animals.

To be useful to the crown, he is trained as an assassin and gets to use the magic of the Farser Family. However, his tutor is allied to another political faction and is determined to discredit, even kill him. Fitz must survive and save the kingdom.

This book of fantasy will aid you in dealing with real issues, such as identity and loss. It is an intriguing story that will make you dream, but also think about your own choices. It is a book for all fantasy lovers.
